The 67th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Agriculture Economics was successfully organized at BIRD during 5 to 7 November 2007. The Conference was presided over by the eminent economist Dr Isher Judge Ahluwalia. It brought together prominent agricultural economists, policy makers and bankers for interactive deliberations and discussions on three themes, namely Trends in Rural Finance, Trading in livestock and livestock products and Risk Management in agriculture / rural sector. It was well attended by 136 participants from different states. |

| Redefining Rural Financial Services through ICT |
A workshop on ‘Redefining Rural Financial Services through ICT’ was organised at BIRD during 18-19 Feb 2008. The workshop was well attended by 47 senior delegates from various banks and representatives from IT companies. Papers on ICT innovations were presented by 10 senior bankers/Professionals and technological demos were made by the IT companies. Stalls showcasing various products such as kiosks, smart cards, mobiles, solar based UPS, etc. were put up by the IT companies. This enabled logical transformation from presentations and discussions to ‘on hand trials’ by techno providers which was highly appreciated by the delegates. |

Syllabus Committee Meeting – cum Training Consultation Workshop |

The Syllabus Committee Meeting-cum-Training Consultation Workshop of
BIRD was convened on 03 and 04 March 2008 to facilitate finalisation of
training curriculum proposed by the Institute for 2008-09. The workshop was well attended by senior officials from major client groups, i.e., Commercial Banks, RRBs, Cooperatives and NGO/MFIs. The suggestions made by the client sub groups in respect of introduction of new programmes, modification
in contents of the proposed programmes etc. are being incorporated in our training programmes scheduled for 2008-09. |

Consultative Meet to Identify Research Themes for CMR |
|
A Consultative Meet to identify Research Themes for Centre for Microfinance Research (CMR) was held on 24 March 2008. The meet was attended by Shri Y C Nanda, Ex Chairman NABARD, eminent economist Dr V S Vyas and noted microfinance practitioners. The themes suggested after due deliberations are being compiled by CMR for undertaking research. |
