Highlights for June  2009

1.Governing Council
Thirtieth meeting of the Governing Council of BIRD was held on 26 June 2009.  The GC chalked out future course of action for BIRD which we will strive to achieve.
2. Finance Committee Meeting
The XXI Meeting of the Finance Committee of BIRD was held on 17 June 2009. The Meeting reviewed the expenditure and discussed the annual accounts of BIRD for the year 2008-09 and recommended the same for approval by GC.
3. Training Programmes:
Eighteen in-Campus training programmes with a total participation of 303 were conducted during the month. This included a programme on ‘Investment Management and ALM for Chairmen and GMs of RRBs ’ with 11 participants. The average turn out of participants per programme for the period stood at 17.
4.Other meetings and initiatives:
The first meeting of the Committee on developing a course on Financial Inclusion was held on 27th June 2009.  The Committee was chaired by Prof. M. S. Sriram, IIM, Ahmedabad (G.C.Member).
BIRD provided infrastructure and logistics support for conduct of the OICs’ conference of NABARD on 8 and 9 June 2009.
5.C-PEC
As per the month wise activity schedule of C-PEC, an Experts Workshop was organised on 19 June 2009 to discuss and finalise draft accreditation parameters for cooperative training institutes, draft course module for certification course for trainees and draft examination rules and regulations for various certificate courses. The drafts were earlier prepared by FMs from ASCTIs/ICMs/VAMNICOM. The workshop was attended, among others, by the Director, NCUI; Director, VAMNICOM; Principals of ACSTIs/ICM/ RICMs and CGM, HRDD.   It was decided that the modifications/suggestions made in the workshop will be incorporated in the drafts and C-PEC will organise a stakeholders’ workshop for implementation of the activities.
6.CMR
Dr. C. Rangarajan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and ex-Governor of RBI has given his kind consent to inaugurate the National Seminar on ‘Microfinance in India-Issues and Challenges’ to be organized on 25 and 26 July 2009 at BIRD.
The first issue of our journal ‘The Microfinance Review’ will be released during the above seminar.  We have awarded the contract for printing and delivery of the first issue of the journal to EPW Research Foundation, Mumbai.
7.Faculty Development:
Shri Dathathree, FM attended a Programme on Negotiating Skills for Recovery Management at NIBM, Pune during 15-18 June 2009.
Dr. Shikha Tripathi, FM attended a Programme on Emotional Intelligence for Leadership Competency for Women Managers at NIBM, Pune during 22 - 26 June 2009.
Shri Monmoy Mukherjee, FM is attending a Programme on Information Systems Audit and IT Risk Management at NIBM, Pune from 29 June to 02 July 2009.
Shri S V Nemlekar, FM is attending a Programme on Marketing Management for Branch Officials at NIBM, Pune from 29 June to 03 July 2009.
8.Postings and Transfers
Shri R K Das, GM, reported as Joint Director of the Institute on 8 June 2009. While two Faculty Members were transferred out of BIRD during the month, two FMs, one officer in Grade B and a PS joined the Institute. One officer in Grade C who has been deputed to Himachal Pradesh SCB by NABARD was relieved during the month.
